Credit Cards for College Students – Finding the Best Available

Word Count:Article Body:
Student credit cards are geared primarily toward college students. But there are many factors that can make credit cards for college students the right choice for young people. So, it is very important for all consumers, not just students, to first learn about each type of available card and then choose the one that is most suitable.

Secured credit cards are one type of card for students to consider. These cards are funded in advance of purchases and do not actually extend a line of credit in the form of a loan. Rather, the cardholder sends money to the card ahead of time and uses those funds to make purchases later. In essence, a secured credit card is a bank account that does not earn interest, but can be accessed easily with the swipe of a credit card.

Secured credit cards for college students are a popular choice with many students and their parents. One of the reasons for the popularity of these student credit cards is the fact that it is not necessary to have a credit history in order to receive the card. Of course, most college students have not yet had the opportunity to build a credit history. Therefore, a secured credit card is an attractive option. In addition, secured student credit cards typically offer instant approval and do not require employment verification or even a bank account in order to receive a card.

Secured credit cards are also popular with parents because they can “load” the credit cards with as much money as they see fit for their college student. Loading a credit card is simply placing money on the card. Parents can generally choose to have money directly added to the card with each paycheck. Or, they can send money through the mail in the form of a money order or cashier’s check. There usually are also banks that will accept payments to be added to the credit card.

With a secured student credit card, parents can essentially provide their college-going child with an allowance to pay for food, school materials, or any other need the student may have. At the same time, there is no risk of the college student building a huge debt on an unsecured credit card. Once the money is spent, there is no more for the college student to spend. Secured credit cards for college students are a great way for parents to help teach their children to be responsible and independent while still providing a little help along the way.

Another benefit to using secured credit cards for college students is that many report to the major credit bureaus. In this way, the college student can begin building credit without the concern of harming his or her credit rating by being unable to pay the debt off.

For some college students, secured credit cards are not the most attractive option. One reason is because there tends to be a great number of fees associated with secured credit card. Theses fees include application fees, processing fees, and annual fees. There is generally also a fee associated with loading funds onto the credit card. Thought these fees usually range from $1 to $5, the fees can add up over time.

Another reason secured credit cards may not be attractive to a college student is because the student is truly on his or her own and unable to receive financial assistance from the parents. Or, the college student may simply not have the funds available to place on a secured credit card ahead of time.

No matter the reason, unsecured student credit cards are also a popular option with credit cards. Credit cards geared toward college students are specifically designed for individuals with little credit history. Often, the Annual Percentage Rate (APR) on these cards is higher than average. Therefore, it is best for the college student to pay off the card at the end of each billing cycle whenever possible. As with secured student credit cards, unsecured credit cards for college students go a long way toward building the student’s credit history.

Credit Card Application: How To Get The Best Credit Card Deals

When you go shopping, you will see that most people are now using credit cards to purchase the things they need. You have to consider that the credit card is now one of the most important and also one of the widely used financial tools that people are using. Besides, with credit cards, you can purchase the things that you want even if you still dont have the money for it.

However, before you go and start applying for a credit card, you first need to remember that credit cards are not tools for unlimited wealth. You first have to ask yourself if you are responsible enough to own one as irresponsible use of credit cards is known to get people in financial ruin and left with a large amount of debt.

Applying for a credit card is fairly easy. You just need to choose what kind of credit card you want and fill out an application form. However, the hard part in credit card application is getting it approved by the credit card issuer. This is why you need to consider knowing what factors are needed when applying for a credit card.

To start with, using a credit card means that you will be borrowing money from the credit card issuer, such as the bank. The borrowed money here should be paid back in time. So, the next question would be how the bank will be sure that you will pay back the borrowed money. The answer to this question is by looking at your credit score.

When applying for loans and credit cards, the credit score is perhaps the most important factor in order to get you approved in your application. So, just what is the credit score?

A credit score is what lenders usually look at in order to determine if the borrower can be trusted to pay back the loan. Every person has a credit score. To put it simply, your credit score is your credit history. This means that if you borrowed money in the past from large financial institutions, it will instantly be recorded. And, if you paid it back on time, your credit score will increase. However, if you dont pay your loan back on time, your credit score will decrease.

When applying for a credit card, you will notice that credit card issuers will usually have different varieties of cards. Depending on the type of credit card you apply for, the best credit cards often go to people with the best credit score. This is because the issuer will have some sort of assurance that the borrower will pay back the credit on time.

If you havent had a loan in your life and it is your first time to apply for a credit card, the best thing that you can do is get a credit card with a high interest rate or get a secured credit card. Although the APR or annual percentage rate of this kind of cards are high, this is a great way to build your credit score. Just make sure that you pay back all your purchases made on the credit card on or before the grace period. In time, you will see that your credit score will go up and will have more chances of getting approved for an unsecured credit card with low interest rates or low APR.

Word Count:Article Body:
When choosing the right credit card for you, it is extremely important that you are aware of the conditions and terms that apply to the credit card. There are a few things you should take into consideration, for example take a look at the finance charges, method of balance computation, annual fee, and any periods of time that are interest free on any purchase made with the card, if the payment is made on time and in full.

Everyday, nearly every consumer becomes hit with many different offers of this credit card or that credit card. The choices can seem overwhelming, you could receive offers that include no annual fee, low yearly percentage rates, additional insurance, or reward programs. It becomes extremely difficult with each new offer to determine which credit card is suitable for you and your situation.

Other things you should consider when choosing a credit card includes your credit history, you will need to understand if you have excellent credit, slightly damaged credit or poor credit. With perfect credit or even credit that has the minimal of damage, you can likely be approved and choose any type of credit card you desire. For those with average or slightly damaged credit and those with poor credit will need to choose a credit card very carefully in order to receive the best possible value.

Additionally, close examine your habits in spending when you are choosing your credit card. Consider the following very carefully, how will the card be used, do you intend to pay the balance off monthly, or do you intend to have a balance carry over each month? If it is likely that you will allow your balance to carry over each month and make minimal payments you should probably consider a credit card that has a lower APR or Annual Percentage Rate. For those that intend to pay their balance off monthly in full, they will likely benefit from a card that will offer you some sort of reward program.

Reward programs are great because they can offer you many things such as, frequent flyer miles, extended grace periods that are interest-free, or cash back on purchased made with that credit card.

You should also take into carefully consideration your personal interests when choosing a credit card. For example, if you are a frequent traveler it could be of high value to opt for a credit card that will offer you specific rewards like travel vouchers or discounts to use while traveling. Do you prefer to shop at one specific store? Then you should think about getting a credit card that offers you the opportunity to gain cash back or rewards when you make purchases at that particular business.

Most of us will assert that the simple act of possessing a credit card can make a person feel a lot more independent than other things.

The truth is you need to be extremely cautious when applying for a credit card, as it is a complex web of fees, charges, and interest rates (not to mention hidden clauses and terms which are not only illegal but also financially dangerous) which can sink you deep in debt.

Apply for a credit card only if you are sure that you will be able to make intelligent use of it in the near future. But first, you will need a layman’s crash course on credit card interest rates before you secure and swipe your card at the first opportunity.

I have found that interest rates are not the same for different applicants. But usually the means for assigning interest rates on an applicant is based on his credit history. Assuming that you have no history of bad credit, you could end up getting a loan at a relatively low interest rate. Alternatively, you would have no choice but to work hard in order to improve your credit.

This may be done the hard way, by taking the brunt of the compromised interest rate which the bank will assign to you, or to choose a plan with a lower credit limit so that the interest rate follows accordingly. There is also the option of the prepaid credit card. But this method of rebuilding credit is hard to secure and it charges even higher interest costs.

Sure enough, there are low interest credit cards or even zero percent interest plans which are available, but as expected, there is a catch: this low interest may not be valid for over a certain period of somewhere between six months and one year. After the expiration of this low interest period, higher rates of interest come into play. For a monthly or annual fee, service alerts are offered, informing the borrower as to when his low interest period is due to expire.

But most times, these are nothing more than gimmicks. They are targeted to work in the short term only.

Some credit cards can also be used in an ATM to take out funds within the credit limit, but the interest is usually charged from the date of withdrawal, and not from the monthly billing date. This means that the issuer gets a higher payback in interest rate from the transaction than usual.

Bear in mind the fact that many credit card providers offer varying rates of interest. So make sure you know what you are getting into. Some may lure you with teaser offers of low rates for a certain period, whereas the regular rates can get as high as 40 percent.

Since there are no fixed regulations concerning interest rates and penalties on late payments, some issuers forfeit the teaser rates if the borrower does not make the payment on time, and replaces it with a penalty interest rate. Some can even be so unscrupulous as to charge interest even if the balance is fully paid on the due date.

Ideally, you should be shopping around for credit cards that are really cheap. But it is not enough to charge low rates. The card should offer terms that would be convenient for the borrower.

Capital One Credit Cards: Card Offers For All Credit Types

No matter where your credit stands, Capital One has a credit card just for you. Want cash back but have less than perfect credit? You can get a cash rewards card from Capital One. Want to be awarded for your history of on-time payments? Capital One offers extra incentives for those with excellent credit. From customized cards to no hassle rewards, youre bound to find a Capital One credit card that fits both your credit score and style.

A Card for your Credit

Capital One offers cards for all types of credit, including excellent, above average, and those that need improvement. If you have above average credit and want to receive cash back, consider Capital Ones No Hassle Cash Rewards Card. With this credit card, youll receive 1% cash back on all of your purchases. It has no annual fee, and youll enjoy a 0% interest rate on all you buy until June 2008.

If your credit needs improving, you may still be eligible for a similar credit card. The Capital One No Hassle Cash Rewards card offers the same program. Youll get 1% cash back on purchases. Because it is geared for below average credit, it has an annual fee of $29. This card has a 0% interest rate on purchases until March 2008.

Many Capital One credit cards operate in a similar fashion. You can choose the benefits you want, whether that be cash back, miles, or a low interest rate. Then match those benefits to your credit rating. Youll come away with a credit card designed specifically for your needs.

Understanding your Credit Score

Since many of Capital Ones cards cater to different levels of credit, it is important to understand how that credit score is determined. The most important factor is your payment history, which contributes to 35% of your total score. Paying at least the minimum due on your credit card over a period of time will significantly boost your credit rating. Your length of credit history and the types of loans you have are also taken into consideration.

The No Hassle Perks

Many credit card issuers offer rewards programs and Capital One is no exception. However, Capital One works to streamline the process, making it easier for customers to calculate their rewards. For example, some credit card companies offer a layered cash back program. Customers may earn less than 1% for the first $1500 they spend, and then a higher percentage for the next $1500, and then a different rate after that. Sound confusing? It can be. To simplify the process, Capital One offers a straight percentage rate for cash back and rewards. This lets you know what youre earning for each dollar spent, no strings attached.

If you want a credit card that issues miles as rewards, youll find a similar no hassle feature. Capital One offers 1.25 miles for every dollar you spend. So as you swipe your card, you can immediately calculate how many miles you just earned. That is a simple process compared to many other travel reward programs.

Capital One offers card options that fit your credit needs. Its hassle-free features help you calculate your cash back and travel miles. A Capital One credit card may be your ticket to headache-free rewards.

Word Count:Article Body:
What Is A 0% APR Credit Card? Many of us have heard about them, but has anyone every explained 0% APR credit cards to you? Well, for starters, the APR or annual percentage rate is the rate of interest credit card companies charge on outstanding payments. The amount you are charged depends not only on the rate of interest, but also on the method of calculation of rates of interest. 0% APR credit cards are credit cards that charge you no interest on credit, for a specified period of time. The best 0% APR credit cards offer 0% APRs to customers for up to 12 months. After 12 months the credit card issuer charges you at the normal rate. The card issuer assumes a risk by offering you interest free credit for such an extended period. They balance that risk by offering 0% APR credit cards to only customers with the best credit.

What Determines Your Credit?

Your credit depends on a number of factors. Your credit score, also known as the FICO score is widely used as a credit rating for Americans. Since your credit rating will determine whether you are issued a 0% APR credit card, knowing what goes into the score helps a great deal. Your credit score is determined based on five parameters. The most important among these parameters is your current debt and your history of repayment of debt.

The other three parameters for calculation of credit score are the length of your credit history, amount of new credit and types of credit used. Based on these five parameters, the individual is given a score ranging from 300 to 850. This is indicative of the credit worthiness of the person at a particular point of time. People with credit scores above 770 usually qualify for a 0% APR credit card. However scores above 700 are also considered good. 0% APR credit cards typically require, at a minimum, very good credit and often will require excellent credit.

One method used by customers to avoid interest is balance transfer credit cards. It is possible to shift from a credit card that charges interest to a 0% APR credit card using a balance transfer, provided you have the requisite credit. Once the introductory period of the card expires, people often shift to other 0% APR credit cards using the balance transfer method. Doing this however harms your credit rating and can hurt your prospects of receiving good credit in the future.

Prudence Pays

It is good to be informed of clauses like the universal default clause. This clause states that if you default on your payments to one creditor, for example a bank, it affects your credit rating and can increase the rate of interest you are charged elsewhere. Responsible vendors realize that informed customers make for the best customers in the long run.

0% APR credit cards sometimes come topped with other offers. You can find a variety credit card offers online that come at 0% APR from the best companies. Choose the 0% APR card that makes the most sense financially and functionally. And always try to maintain you good credit rating that got you your 0% APR credit card in the first place.

Those who have bad credit or who have recently filed for bankruptcy may be surprised to find that they are still receiving numerous credit card offers. This has become a well known issue, and it is apparent that banks either don’t know or don’t care that the people they are sending offers to already have bad credit. In most cases, banks and credit card companies don’t take the time to research people they send offers to.

While most credit card companies are partial to consumers who have excellent credit, some companies have programs that are directed towards those who have little or no credit. Despite this, credit card companies should still not be sending offers to consumers who have filed for bankruptcy or defaulted on their credit cards in the past. In most cases, banks are either intentionally sending offers or just don’t know about the credit history of those they mail offers to.

Traditionally, credit card companies have used a business strategy that is very profitable. They would charge consumers 19% interest on the money that was borrowed, and they would also charge an annual fee that could be a high as $20. Combine this with the money the received from retailers who accepted their cards, and you are looking at an industry which generates billions of dollars each year. During this time, banks were cautious about who they gave cards to, because they couldn’t afford to suffer heavy losses.

By the 1990s, banks begin to have access to detailed credit information about their customers. Institutions like Equifax, TransUnion, and Experian allowed banks to make specific decisions about customers who applied for credit cards. With this technology, you have to wander why credit card companies would send offers to anyone, including those who have filed for bankruptcy. The answer is because it is cheaper to mass mail cards to thousands of consumers rather than look for specific individuals who qualify.

It is best for those who have bad credit to avoid applying for these offers. If you get denied, you can be hurt even more, and you should want to repair you credit. If you want to avoid all credit cards, it may be a good idea to look at prepaid debit cards, which can be used like credit cards without the problems often seen with them. The use of credit cards is important in the US, and if you can’t apply for one there will always be other options.

Word Count:Article Body:
Airline credit cards, primarily aimed at a travelers convenience, are the result of collaboration between credit card companies and different airline companies. These are very popular reward cards and are a step further to frequent flyer cards. Frequent flyer cards can be airline sponsored or bank sponsored. Bank sponsored credit cards allow more flexibility, as the miles earned can be used on many airlines unlike airline-sponsored, which focuses on single airline. Apart from numerous incentives, transactions on airline credit card can add substantial savings for the cardholder.

Generally, for every dollar charged on the card, you earn one point which is equivalent to a travel mile. In addition, these cards can be used with a wide range of services like hotels, car rentals, car wash, and shopping malls. Purchases made and hence the accumulated points (once they reach the required level) can be redeemed for free travel miles for the next trip.

Who Should Go For An Airline Credit Card?
Airline credit cards are wise economic decisions only for those who:
* Have a good or excellent credit history
* Do not carry balance , in other words pay your monthly bill without any dues and on time
* Charge a lot to the card and use it for everthing
* Are flexible when it comes to redeeming the accumulated miles

Choosing the Right Airline Credit Card
A good airline credit card with wide compatibility functions helps to consolidate the benefits of 2 to 3 credit cards into one. The system of operation for these cards is no different from the normal credit cards. Some points to ponder in choosing the right card are:

*Interest rates:
Most of these cards have a high Annual Percentage Rate (APR). Typically, they tend to be 5-6% higher than the normal cards.

*Annual fees:
The annual fee for these cards is a main concern for the cardholders. In many cases, the annual fee paid is not relative to the rewards received. It is better to compare the fee for a number of cards, narrow the choices to the ones with moderate fees, and compare the rewards given on these cards to make the final decision.

*Redemption criteria:
The redemption criterion is a key factor in determining the right card. You should consider the blackout dates that are applicable for redeeming the frequent flyer miles. There could be an upper limit on the number of miles that can be accumulated and their validity. Some cards will let you convert accumulated points to cash. In addition, there can be more restrictions if the balance in not paid in full or if you are late with the payment.

*Balance transfers:
Some airline credit cards will allow balance transfer at a lower interest rate. This shifting of balances could help in increasing the flyer miles on the card. With balance transfer, you can achieve the double benefits of accumulating more flyer miles and debt consolidation.

*Other lucrative services:
There are various other extra travel services offered by these airline credit cards. These include and are not restricted to discount on car rentals, travel insurance on purchases using your card, emergency cash withdrawal from the card while traveling and discounts in certain restaurants and shopping malls.

Airline Miles Credit Card
Another variant to the airline credit card is the airline miles credit card. As the name indicates, these cards accumulate miles per dollar spent. There are varieties of airline miles credit card each offering different terms and conditions on the airline miles per dollar spent. Hence, you need to check for the minimum number of air miles necessary for a free trip and the duration of validity of the accumulated miles.

With increased competition, many airline miles credit cards offer attractive incentives on sign up. These include additional bonus on first purchase, 0% APR for certain introductory period and on balance transfers.

Though these are attractive offers, you need to consider the cost of maintaining these cards after the initial offer period. Airline credit cards, especially airlines miles credit cards are a good buy only for those who are regular flyers, as these cards tend to have high interest rate, annual fees, and other fees.

In conclusion, as with any other card, you can reap good benefits only if you take time to read and research the fine print with the various offers. Careful search should give cards that offer low interest rates, no annual fees, more miles on dollar spent, and freedom to travel on any airline with no blackout dates. The best airline credit card is one that gives good value for money, in terms of accumulated miles and rewards.

Everyone goes into business to make money, so why spend more of your profits on expensive transaction fees, Website maintenance, service agreements and high credit card processing rates? When you take time to shop for the best deals, you can save quite a bit of money that can be used to good purpose in other parts of your business. Start shopping for the best credit card processing rates and open a merchant account.

You will first need to find a reputable bank or credit union that will agree to extend a merchant account to you for this purpose. To get approved, you will need a solid credit history, a reasonable business plan, and documentation to show that you are able to manage the costs associated with credit card processing rates. Typically, these include an installation fee for credit card processing equipment, a monthly gateway fee for your financial host, a transaction fee of a few cents per each or an overall percentage total each month. You also may be offered Website service that will entail a hosting fee, a service contract cost, and a designers or updating service fee. Be sure to carefully read the terms of any contract that you receive. Never sign something that you dont understand or with which you cannot completely agree. Your company may have to pay for a monthly minimum up to a certain number of transactions, after which the balance for that month do not require additional fees.

Credit card processing rates can vary by company or by processor program. Some companies charge no installation fee, while others require a one-time cost of a few hundred dollars, depending on the programs complexity. You may have to pay between 15 and 25 cents per transaction, or you could opt to pay a monthly percentage for the entire amount of business generated by your credit card processing unit; this amount often falls below 2%.

It is always a good idea to compare rates among competing financial institutions. If you really like the services offered by one merchant account company but prefer the lower rates of a second company, tell the first one about the competitors lower rates, and perhaps the first company will meet or beat the lower cost in order to get your business. At first, you may want to keep the customers interests in mind when shopping for credit card processing rates. In other words, passing on the savings of a particular program to your customers will keep them coming back to do business with you. If your rates are too high or not competitive enough, they may decide to take their business elsewhere.

As you plan to set up your new credit card processing service rates, it may help to let them know in advance that this program is coming so they can prepare and perhaps even help to get the word out to other potential customers. Then, after installing your new credit card processor, you should not hear complaints that anyone was blindsided or treated unfairly. If someone does complain, politely remind them of the earlier notices.

When you are ready to start processing credit card payments, dont be tempted to go for the option with the most features or the most sophisticated set-up. Opt for a system that will best suit your company needs and your customers interests, as well as offering the best credit card processing rates.

Balance transfer credit cards are those that make an excellent choice for transferring balances from one card to the other. The main purpose behind transferring balances is to remove debt from a card with a higher interest rate to one with a lower interest rate. In this way, the consumer can save money by reducing or even eliminating finance charges. When looking for the best balance transfer credit cards, it is important to look at a variety of factors.

The Annual Percentage Rate (APR) is one of the first factors a consumer should consider when looking for the best balance transfer credit cards. Credit card companies are hoping to steal your business away from other credit card companies. As a result, they often make special introductory offers with lowered interest rates for balance transfers. In many cases, this APR will even be 0.00%. Be sure to find the balance transfer credit card offering the lowest APR, and then only use that card for your balance transfer. Don’t use it to make any purchases. This is what the credit card companies are hoping consumers will do so they can assess finance charges on the purchases they make with their card.

The length of the special introductory APR varies from card to card. Sometimes, the length is also dependent upon the applicant’s credit history. It is important to be sure how long this period lasts and to set goals to have the balance paid in full once the introductory period is complete. The best balance transfer credit cards will keep the special introductory rate in effect on the card for the life of the loan. In other words, the APR stays the same until it has been paid off entirely. For consumers that will not be able to pay off the balance within the introductory period, this is certainly the best way to go.

Most credit cards assess fees when making balance transfers. These fees are generally determined as a percentage of the total amount of funds transferred. Most commonly, balance transfer fees are 3% of the amount transferred. Many balance transfer credit cards will, however, waive these fees during the introductory period. It is best for consumers to choose these balance transfer credit cards. Otherwise, they may be paying large amounts in fees, negating the savings in finance charges.

Some balance transfer credit cards require initiating balance transfers at the time of application for the card. Yet others allow balance transfers to be completed throughout the duration of the introductory period. The best balance transfer credit cards are the former, simply because they allow for more flexibility. Consumers who are sure they will not need to transfer balances later may, however, be happy with a credit card that only allows transfers to be made at the time of application.

Some balance transfer credit cards place restrictions on the types of balances that can be transferred. For example, some business credit cards only allow business expenses to be eligible for introductory rates. It is important for consumers to be sure to understand what type of balances can be transferred before applying for a card to ensure it meets their needs.

Many balance transfer credit cards also have special rewards programs. Consumers need to compare the programs before deciding on a credit card so they can choose the card with the rewards program best suited to their lifestyle. In addition, some balance transfer credit cards do not count the funds that are transferred toward the points system used in the rewards programs. To get the most of the card, consumers should find balance transfer credit cards that do count the transfers toward their rewards programs.
