Credit Cards for College Students – Finding the Best Available

Word Count:Article Body:
Student credit cards are geared primarily toward college students. But there are many factors that can make credit cards for college students the right choice for young people. So, it is very important for all consumers, not just students, to first learn about each type of available card and then choose the one that is most suitable.

Secured credit cards are one type of card for students to consider. These cards are funded in advance of purchases and do not actually extend a line of credit in the form of a loan. Rather, the cardholder sends money to the card ahead of time and uses those funds to make purchases later. In essence, a secured credit card is a bank account that does not earn interest, but can be accessed easily with the swipe of a credit card.

Secured credit cards for college students are a popular choice with many students and their parents. One of the reasons for the popularity of these student credit cards is the fact that it is not necessary to have a credit history in order to receive the card. Of course, most college students have not yet had the opportunity to build a credit history. Therefore, a secured credit card is an attractive option. In addition, secured student credit cards typically offer instant approval and do not require employment verification or even a bank account in order to receive a card.

Secured credit cards are also popular with parents because they can “load” the credit cards with as much money as they see fit for their college student. Loading a credit card is simply placing money on the card. Parents can generally choose to have money directly added to the card with each paycheck. Or, they can send money through the mail in the form of a money order or cashier’s check. There usually are also banks that will accept payments to be added to the credit card.

With a secured student credit card, parents can essentially provide their college-going child with an allowance to pay for food, school materials, or any other need the student may have. At the same time, there is no risk of the college student building a huge debt on an unsecured credit card. Once the money is spent, there is no more for the college student to spend. Secured credit cards for college students are a great way for parents to help teach their children to be responsible and independent while still providing a little help along the way.

Another benefit to using secured credit cards for college students is that many report to the major credit bureaus. In this way, the college student can begin building credit without the concern of harming his or her credit rating by being unable to pay the debt off.

For some college students, secured credit cards are not the most attractive option. One reason is because there tends to be a great number of fees associated with secured credit card. Theses fees include application fees, processing fees, and annual fees. There is generally also a fee associated with loading funds onto the credit card. Thought these fees usually range from $1 to $5, the fees can add up over time.

Another reason secured credit cards may not be attractive to a college student is because the student is truly on his or her own and unable to receive financial assistance from the parents. Or, the college student may simply not have the funds available to place on a secured credit card ahead of time.

No matter the reason, unsecured student credit cards are also a popular option with credit cards. Credit cards geared toward college students are specifically designed for individuals with little credit history. Often, the Annual Percentage Rate (APR) on these cards is higher than average. Therefore, it is best for the college student to pay off the card at the end of each billing cycle whenever possible. As with secured student credit cards, unsecured credit cards for college students go a long way toward building the student’s credit history.

Credit Card Types And How To Know The Best For You

Choosing the right credit card is a decision thats more important and difficult to make than most people think. With the right credit card, youll be able to maximize your card benefits without getting into debt.

Credit Card Types Which One Suits You Best?

Low Interest Credit Card If youre interested in having a credit card only so you can pay for emergency expenses when you run out of cash, this is the best type of card for you.

Reward Credit Card Every time you swipe your credit card, you get to enjoy an equivalent number of points depending on how much youve spent. The points youve accumulated can later be on exchanged for various prizes.

Airline Miles Credit Card This is a type of reward credit card that offers only airline miles as rewards. When you use this credit card to purchase your plane fare, youll be able to enjoy reward miles. Later on, youll be able to use them and get discounted plane fare or fly for free even! The same rule applies for gas credit cards.

Student Credit Card Credit card companies have lately been designing credit card offers exclusively for students. Although accompanied with higher interest rates, these cards often have funky designs and offer special reward programs developed primarily to provide maximum enjoyment for students. Proof of schooling is often required. It helps if youre enrolled in an accredited school and youve got great grades.

Secured Credit Card If youve got bad credit, theres still a chance for you to own a credit cardbut only if youre okay with having a secured one. This type of credit card requires you to make a deposit on your bank account and serves as collateral in the event that you fail to pay off your credit card debt. Your credit card limit may equal or be more than the amount youve deposited.

Prepaid Credit Card This isnt a credit card per se, but it generally works like one. The limit of this card will depend on how much youve deposited in its account. You cant spend more than what youve deposited. Its main difference with a secured credit card is that secured credit cards can have greater card limits beyond the value of its deposit.

Business Credit Card This works just like any other conventional credit card only with a few additional perks that make it extremely suitable for business use. A business credit card can automatically separate personal expenses from business expenditures, facilitating monthly tallies for your taxes. It can also provide expense reports for your business, special rewards for your business, and allow you to provide supplementary cards for your employees. You can also choose to modify the credit limit of your employees if necessary.

Home-Secured Credit Card This works like a secured credit card, but only this time youre using your home as collateral. If you dont get to pay off your credit card debt, you know what will happen to your home, dont you?

Charity Credit Card Think of it as shopping for a cause. Every time you purchase something using your credit card, a small amount of your money will be donated to the charity being sponsored by the credit card company. This is a great way to salve your conscience if you feel guilty about your materialistic tendencies.

The Internet is a vast realm of the articles in connection with credit card offers. Advertisements with regards to college student credit card offers come with the necessary ornate promises and appealing words just so they can pique the interest of the college students of today. Most of the college students these days are into the possibility of getting a credit card of their own. Due to the advertisements which they happen to see, they become aware of the college student credit card offers made available for them.

For most of the college students, getting a credit card is a necessity rather than a luxury. There are many things which a college student will need to buy for educational purposes. There are the books, uniforms, and many other school materials on which money must be spent on. Having some limited allowance, the college students may be unable to purchase all of what they need. They will also have to consider the payments for the dorm, food, laundry, and other school fees. The credit card may not actually be the solution to the entire dilemma but in a way, these stuffs can help them out carry on with the necessary expenses.

Most of the parents think that their college student kids will yet be unable to handle their credit cards well. The thing is that credit cards call for two things-discipline and responsibility. The role of the parents in looking into the management of their kids’ credit cards prove to be very crucial. They must let their children realize that the dues incurred by the credit cards need to be paid so they must take full responsibility in the things which they purchase. Irresponsibility on their part will lead to the most common sanction of getting the credit transactions cut.

There are a lot of college student credit card offers which parents and the students may select from. The fact that college student credit cards entail higher APR in comparison with the regular credit cards out there must be borne in mind. Here is a list of the college student credit card offers which must be looked out for:

A reasonable APR. The truth is, the student credit cards contain higher APR than the regular cards used by professionals. The reason behind that is because these credit card companies would like to be secured since they know for a fact that their clientles are people with some limited sources of paying them back. College students should then try looking out into the deals offered by lending companies.

The cash advance scheme. A credit card that allows the bearer to withdraw from ATM machines is always of great help. It is because not all of the things which a student needs to purchase can be done with the use of the credit card.

The balance transfer. The students who are using extension accounts from their parents is given the leeway to consolidate all of their balances in their other existing accounts into one.

The freebies. Most of the banks and lending institutions usually give out rewards or rebates in the transactions that they incur. Some of these can really be exciting.

Online research on college student credit card offers can be of vast help to both the parents and the students. It wont hurt them if they try to exert a little more of their efforts.

College Student Credit Card Offers: How To Know If A Credit Card Is Right For You

As a college student, you will experience a lot of financial difficulties, especially because education is getting more and more expensive each semester. You also have to face the fact that your everyday college expenses, such as laundry and transportation can prove to be very difficult to budget.

Of course, there is always mom and dad to rely on whenever you are having financial difficulties while you are in college. However, you also need to consider the fact that you just can’t depend on your parents every time you need money. This is also why you apply for part time jobs while in college or in places within your campus just to make ends meet. And, even your meager salary in your part time job is simply not enough for your daily needs in your college life.

If you are experiencing this kind of life in college, then it may be time for you to get a student credit card. This particular credit card is specially designed for students and is very different from your regular credit card. Because it may be the first time for college students to apply for a credit card, most credit card companies designed their student credit cards to be a form of secured credit cards.

Because it is a secured credit card, you will be able to avoid accumulating high amounts of debt because of reckless spending. As a college student, you have to remember that you need to be responsible for your financial problems. If you need groceries but you dont have the money for it, then it may be time for you to use your student credit card. Never use your credit card in shopping for unnecessary items, such as the expensive pair of sneakers that you’ve always wanted.

Today, there are many student credit card offers that may be circulating in college and university campuses all over the United States. This means that agents may be actively promoting in your campus to sell their credit cards. The next question is what kind of student credit card offer you should get.

Just like shopping for a regular credit card, you have to ask yourself if you really need the credit card and will you be able to use it frequently. If you do need a credit card because you dont eat three times a day and you dont even have money to pay for transportation or pay for your laundry, then it may be time for you to get a student credit card. However, if your answer is that you need a student credit card to purchase that pair of sneakers you always wanted and that latest and very trendy iPod, then you dont need a student credit card.

When choosing student credit card offers, you have to estimate all the cost of owning one and determine if you can afford to own one. This may be not a problem at all as there are a variety of student credit cards that has different plans to suit every kind of student.

The last and perhaps the most important question that you should ask yourself is if you are responsible enough to own a student credit card. Try to ask yourself if you just buy anything that is being offered to you without thinking about your primary needs first. If you are, then you are a compulsive buyer and you should keep your hands off a credit card.

These are the things you should know when you are being offered a student credit card.

Charging Away From Home: Knowing College Student Credit Card Offers

A credit card can be a great advantage to a college student, especially one who is studying far away from home. The rush of college life can give students very little time to line up at the ATM or bank to get the cash they need. A credit card can save them time, since all they have to do is whip it out and have it swiped, provided, of course, that the merchant has the ability to charge purchases to credit cards. A credit card can also give them the chance to buy or charge expensive or emergency purchases, such as hospital bills or laptops, without worrying if they can pay the bill off immediately.

Credit cards, however, can be abused if placed in the wrong hands. Not all college students are aware of the high overdue charges imposed on unpaid bills, and, in the hustle and bustle of schoolwork, are prone to forgetting to pay off their credit card debts. Not all college students are aware of their spending habits, and they may charge too often to their credit card, so that they find out that they are deep in debt only when it is too late. Moreover, not all merchants are equipped with credit card swiping machines, so it can sometimes be difficult to make purchases on important products.

Take all these advantages and disadvantages into consideration when you scrutinize college student credit card offers. Many college students are actually encouraged to get credit cards for themselves, and right out of high school. Some credit card companies offer higher credit limits for students who graduated a certain grade point average; in fact, such credit cards can make great graduation gifts, as they can come with free items that can delight the incoming college student. Other credit card companies offer to maintain this high credit limit for students who maintain a high grade point average throughout college.

There are many incentives associated with school, so take note of such incentives as you examine the college student credit card offered to you. Make sure, however, that you understand all the other incentives well: you might be offered rebates on gas, as well as discounts at stores that sell school supplies, provided that your total purchases reach a certain amount. Although such discounts can look attractive, make sure that the required amount you have to purchase is not too difficult to reach, or is reasonable for both your needs and your ability to pay your credit card debt.

Before filling out the credit card application on your college student credit card offer, study your spending habits for at least a week. How much money do you spend on food? How much do you spend on incidentals, or things that you simply want to enjoy? Do you spend on bars, drinking, and late night escapades? Do you spend a lot on school supplies? Your spending habits will balloon when you have a credit card, so know yourself perfectly well before plunging headlong into that application.

If you think that you can pay off your credit card debt, then read that college student credit card offer carefully, and fill the application out. A college student credit card can give many other incentives, so study these incentives and know the rules and regulations governing the use of the credit card. Know your credit limit well, and take note of the high interest rates imposed on overdue bills. Moreover, set up a method to remind yourself to pay your credit card bills. If possible, set aside a certain amount of money each month that will go into paying your credit card debt.

A college student credit card has many advantages for the wise college student. As long as you know yourself well, and can control your spending habits, you can use the college student credit card without sweating come paying time.

College Student Credit Cards – How to Choose the Best One

Word Count:Article Body:
There are so many credit cards being offered to college students these days that it may be difficult to choose the right college student credit card. It is important to choose carefully to make sure that you have the best deal and rates available.

The interest rate that a college credit card charges is extremely important to take into account. The fact is that when you make a purchase on a college credit card you are, in effect, borrowing money from the credit card issuer. You must pay a monthly interest rate on this loan unless you pay your balance off in full every month. So, you want to have a college credit card with the lowest annual percentage rate and the longest 0% interest introductory period. The majority of college credit cards will be very similar in these two regards so the next point to consider is the rewards that you receive for using the credit card.

For most students, their college credit cards are the first proper credit cards that they will have had and they will not be familiar with the types of rewards that are the best. The three main reward types that are most useful for students are:

* Frequent flyer miles
* Cash back
* Free gas

Frequent flyer miles are the best rewards to have with a college credit card for students who are attending a college a long distance from home. As you use your college credit card you accumulate frequent flyer miles that you can exchange for flights back home or wherever you want to go. Unlike airline reward schemes, frequent flyer miles can be used on any participating airline, worldwide.

Cash back on a college credit card is actually a points system. As you spend money these points accumulate against your college credit card and they can be exchanged for cash, gift certificates or special discounts at popular outlets and stores. The amount of cash back that a college credit card awards may seem small but every little helps and you will soon be racking it up.

Free gas when you use your college credit card is the best option for students who have their own car. Gas prices are getting higher and some college credit cards offer rewards to help with the rising cost of motoring with rebates against gas station purchases. These free gas college credit cards also offer discounts and points towards other motoring related items so it is worth comparing the different schemes available.

Are you thinking of applying for a new credit card? If so, you may want to begin asking yourself what your personal financial goal is. After youve recognized your own needs, you can then pick the category of card you desire and begin your journey to compare credit card offers.

For a student who is applying for a first credit card there are a number of credit cards available that include a variety of features. The benefits of each card vary and can include 0% APR introductory, no annual fee, and rewards offered such as cash back, selected merchandise and entertainment

Quite often a student credit card has a lower credit limit which is actually a plus. It introduces the student to the world of credit, while limiting the chance of running up too large of a bill. An added bonus of a student credit card is it helps to build that needed credit rating which is important in todays world. Of course, the student needs to maintain the credit card account in accordance to the issuing company terms and conditions.

There are available airline credit cards. But if you wish to travel on more than one airline, perhaps a rewards credit card that offers bonus travel points would be more suitable. The benefit to a reward card would be that the owner has a choice of how to spend those bonus points. In addition to air miles, the added choices include cash back, selected merchandise, entertainment and gift certificates.

If you already have a number of credit cards that youre paying the minimum balance and they charge an interest rate of more than 0% APR, you might consider a balance transfer credit card. With an introductory 0% APR, you could have anywhere from six to eighteen months to pay down your debt interest free.

Even if you already have bad credit there are still credit card opportunities for you to apply and even receive instant approval. A credit card for people with bad credit, has a higher interest rate than cards for more stellar credit. However you can avoid these higher fees if you pay your balance billed each month. After youve been able to rebuild your credit, you can then talk to the issuer and get a lower interest rate or reapply for a lower interest credit card.

Two additional cards are available for people with bad credit or for people who dont really want to owe on a credit card, but need a card for the convenience of ordering merchandise by telephone or on the internet. These are prepaid credit cards and debit cards.

These two types of cards can be obtained by completing an easy application and making a specified deposit. They work just like a regular credit card and are also accepted at any ATM machine, giving you total access to your available funds.
